If you've ever met Jane Pierotti, words like "exuberant," "flamboyant" and animated" come to mind. But in "Faces of Memphis," which recently won a regional award in the new series/documentary category from the Radio-Television News Directors Association, we meet another Jane Pierotti: a quiet but no less impassioned woman who is working behind the scenes to create a better Memphis.

Produced by Regina Burns, news/public affairs director at WGKX- FM, the documentary highlights Memphians who have made important contributions to the city’s success "... but not in the usual way," says Burns. "Mayor W.W. Herenton chose Jane to be on his Transition Team. When I saw her name on his list, I wanted to interview her."

Pierotti is excited about the opportunity to work with the first black mayor of Memphis. "Dr. Herenton is a man of vision---a quality I appreciate. He values the importance of communicating with people to build support," says Pierotti.

The segment on Pierotti maps her career as a motivational speaker and communications consultant and touches on her personal adversity as well as the five-year process she went through to put her life back together' She explains that her belief system provides her with the tools to overcome any obstacles in her life today.

"What we believe controls what we choose, which sometimes results in consequences we don't like," says Pierotti. "I like to challenge what people believe and get them to think differently so that they can make the fight choices in their lives."

Pierotti is strongly committed to the future of Memphis and talks about its many positives. She believes the city can meet its challenges if citizens will accept personal responsibility for change.
